Fifa 14 gamepad fix – fixes Right Stick and multi controller bug

This post has been moved to http://debanu.blogspot.in/2014/06/fifa-14-gamepad-fix-fixes-right-stick.html

If you are someone who uses a cheap controller (also known as chinese controllers) for playing your Fifa games you’ve probably noticed that the Right Stick (the one used for skill moves) doesn’t function. Sometimes the game detects two controllers instead of one.

The reason is simple. Modern games are designed using the XInput API but the cheap controllers support the older DirectInput. Naturally there is a mismatch and the game doesn’t recognise signals sent by the controller. Most forums mention using the x360ce emulator but it didn’t work for me.

My search brought me across several forums and eventually I found this:

What is the right speed to burn a DVD?

This is a question I have been asking myself for a  long time. I was always advised to burn DVDs/CDs at slow speeds. I was happy to oblige but I wasn’t sure why. Then one day I had a huge amount of data to be burned on to several disks. Naturally the slow speeds got on my nerves and I cranked up to higher speeds. Though I finished my work early, three disks were ruined. So I went online and did some research – and got to the bottom of it.

The data burning process…

Different burn speeds have different effects on  the signals used to burn any disk. A part of this depends on the quality of the disk and the writer. The process of physically burning data to any disk is analogue. Using higher speeds to burn any disk will not introduce errors, what really happens is this:
Every CD burner creates “bumps” on a CD’s surface. These bumps are detected by CD players in order to play. They are affected by the writing speed, disk quality and the laser. Thus it goes without saying that that they must be well defined. Poorly defined bumps result in the CD player extracting jittery signals. Thus the player is unable to decode data properly. The better the quality of a player, the lesser are its chances of making errors.

Final words…

Everywhere I searched, people recommended limiting speeds between 4x-8x. Of course, they also mentioned the quality of the disk and burner must also be noted.
Now matching speeds with the quality of the media is necessary; but we don’t get to figure this out at home unless we have a fully equipped lab. It is thus wiser to burn at lower speeds to be on the safe side. Of course, you might come across those days when there’s a lot of work and you simply cannot wait too long. For those instances use your judgment. Increase the speed if you have to but don't exceed the limit (usually printed on the CD). Instead stay a few notches below it.
If it is a data disk that you are burning, then higher speeds do not affect much as they are better protected (again, don’t cross the limit). Audio disks require you to keep the speeds low, so that you don’t lose out on quality.

Nokia Asha 501: Tips and Tricks

Previously I had mentioned the drawbacks of Nokia’s flagship Asha device, the 501. This post will highlight a few cool features that really could have made it to top end phones.

Edit your Videos

Many users wanted this feature, and now its here. If you have videos on your phone, open it, swipe up from the bottom and scroll down. Tap on the Edit video option.

Edit Video

The Video Editor opens. The interface is similar to what can be seen during video playback. It has a very simple layout. The editor allows changing the start and end points of any video. Tap and drag the slider from the left side to change the starting point. Do the same on the right to change the end point.

Nokia 501

To save the video, simply press the back key and you will be prompted or click on the save icon on the top right.

Easily shuffle songs on Music Player

Open Music Player and click on Songs. Above the first song is the Shuffle option. Just one tap and the phone does the rest. Note that the repeat option is turned on when you use this method.

Search songs using the Scroll bar

Have you ever faced that agonising problem when you are mid-way through your Music list and want to look for a particular song? Thanks to the Search option being present right at the top, you have to scroll all the way up, or go back from the list and enter the Songs list again.

Nokia 501

This tip will show you how to avoid that, and find what you want more easily – particularly in the Artists and Albums list. One the right side of the list, the scroll bar is visible. Tap and drag the scroll bar. The phone will display the initials of all your songs. All songs are sorted in alphabetical order so if you stop at ‘G’ you will get all songs that start with ‘G’.

Personalise Social Network Notifications

This is for those people who think that the number of app notifications are overwhelming. Go to Settings>Background Apps. Here you can select/deselect apps to chose which ones notify you. For example if you what to stop getting notifications from WhatsApp, go to WhatsAppBG and put the slider left (Blue for on; Black for off).

Nokia 501

You can even choose how your apps get updated. Scroll right to the bottom and select Other apps>No updates/Wi-Fi Only/Wi-Fi and Mobile data. Do the same for you your Contacts and Mail clients.

Personalise Notification Style

Go to Settings>Notifications>Full/Sender Only/Icon. This lets you select how the notification bar looks on you lock screen. Full shows the app icon, sender’s name and a portion of the message. Sender Only shows the sender’s name and the last one will only show a generic icon.

Power Saving

This is particularly helpful when you are running low on battery and need only to make urgent calls. Go to Settings>Power Saving. There are two options Power Saving and When Battery is below. Tap Power Saving and select Automatic. Then go to When Battery is Below and specify when you want the feature to be turned on.

Nokia 501

Warning: Enabling this feature stops all Push Notifications (WhatsApp messages, Facebook etc.) once the battery reaches the specified threshold. So if you set the Power Saver to be active when battery is below 50%, all Push Notifications will be disabled the moment the battery meter hits 50%.

Follow your Facebook Contacts on Fastlane

If you have Facebook installed on your Asha 501, this will be easy. All you have to do is create a Nokia account and link Facebook to it. You can do this in Accounts>Nokia Mail. Next go to Contacts, swipe up the menu and click Accounts. You will find your Facebook account listed along with other social apps (if applicable). Tap on it and select Sync with Existing Contacts.
Next, go back to your contact list and refresh your list. This is easy; just scroll to the top,  pull down and release; you must have an active internet plan. Select the contact you’d like to follow. When the Contact opens, swipe up and click Link Contact. This allows the phone contact to link with your Facebook contact. Most of the times this is done automatically but if there are multiple entries with same name or there is a spelling mismatch, you have to link it manually or recheck the spelling of your phone contact.

Nokia 501

Once you’ve linked your Contact (btw its best if you link all Contacts with their Facebook equivalents) open it. Again swipe from bottom and click on Show Updates on Fastlane. Now go to Fastlane and refresh it. That's it, you’re done!
